Artemisinin shows promising effects on human rheumatoid arthritis.

 In vitro, artesunate could significantly inhibit IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 production from synovial cells of RA patients, when stimulated with TNF-α. Further studies demonstrated that artesunate inhibited Akt phosphorylation and IκB degradation by blocking PI3K/Akt signaling pathway downstream of TNF-α [30, 31].
